General Counsel of the Year Award 2019 in Media Technology-Rajinikandh (BARC India)

CELEBRATION OF THE 70TH NATIONAL CONSTITUTION DAY: INBA

The Indian National Bar Association (“INBA) is the largest voluntary bar association based in New Delhi. INBA is an organisation with 10,000 members on its board. Each year the organisation host events around the world on various subjects of law. To coincide with the 70th National Constitution Day, INBA celebrated on November 26, 2019, 8th Award ceremony and International Conference on Law & Policy at Shangri La, Eros Hotel at New Delhi. This conference saw the participation of the Legal Luminaries, Senior Government Officials, and Legal departments of Fortune 500 Companies.

As a mark of respect and admiration for the challenging and yeoman services rendered by lawyers, INBA takes pride in announcing the INBA Annual Constitution Day Awards 2019. This reputed awards ceremony was held on the sidelines of the concurrent conference. It recognises the immense professional contributions of lawyers and general counsels across different verticals who through their sheer hard work and perseverance have efficiently driven their team towards greater success in this complex legal world. This year prestigious General Counsel of the Year Award in Media Technology at the grand conference was won by Mr Rajinikandh ARS, Vice President – Legal, Broadcast Audience Research Council (India). Mr Rajinikandh received this award from none other than Hon’ble Ms Justice Rekha Palli, Judge High Court of Delhi. Celebrating his success, Rajinikandh says, “Winning a prestigious award is extremely special for me. I am thankful for the senior management and my colleagues at BARC India who have supported me in this journey.

ABOUT THE WINNER

Rajinikandh is practising as the Corporate Lawyer from past 16 years and is a law graduate from Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai. He has diversified experience in Corporate and Commercial Laws with specialisation in Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT), mobile wallets, retail banking and realty laws. Before joining BARC India, he worked with Vodafone India for more than 10 years.

Rajinikandh has in-house and external counsel experience with excellent negotiation and communication skills. A proactive and innovative corporate lawyer, who has successfully set up legal function for Broadcast Audience Research Council. He had worked with Senior Counsels across India and won cases in major High Courts. Rajinikandh contributed for expansion of mobile wallet platforms in rural areas, contributed to launching 4G & 3G Services in 3 Telecom Circles. Other feathers in his cap include an active contribution towards the merger of Vodafone – Idea, development of in-house Contract Management Tool. He has focused knowledge in Tech Contracts – Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cloud and M2M documented contracts with leading corporates across India for Cloud, M2M, IoT solutions.

Rajinikandh is also the winner of several other prestigious awards -two Vodafone Global Legal Awards across 25 Vodafone operating countries. He ensured the continuity of mobile services during the crisis by judicial intervention.

Rajinikandh is not the only name associated with the legal field alone. While excelling in his profession he is passionate for dedicating his time for important causes. He volunteered in joint drill conducted by Indian Coast Guard & Marine Police on Tsunami preparedness and rescue mission; co-hosted international community event “Dive Against Debris” & created awareness not to pollute marine life by collecting ghost fishing nets from ocean floor; an active volunteer of costal conservation for 8 years and led teams to clean beaches; campaigned for protecting olive ridley turtles & heritage buildings.
