THE NEWS MINUTE| Kerala High Court: After a series of elephant deaths, the Tamil Nadu government had moved the Madras High Court to direct Railways to reduce the speed of trains at night, to under 45 kmph. It is not possible to reduce the speed of trains plying between Palakkad and Podanur to under 45 kmph to prevent hitting elephants, the Southern Railway has informed the Madras High Court. The Railways also told the court that it is not possible to divert some of the trains in the Palakkad-Pollachi-Coimbatore route to prevent hitting elephants.
Why Karnataka HC dismissed pleas against hijab ban?
THE NEW MINUTE| Karnataka High Court: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday, March 15 dismissed the batch of pleas by student petitioners against the ban on wearing the hijab (headscarf) in classrooms. A bench of Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice JM Khazi said that the petitioners’ pleas against the hijab ban are ‘devoid of merit’ and so are not maintainable. The High Court answered three broad questions on the hijab — if it is an essential religious practice; if prescribing a uniform violates fundamental rights, and whether the Karnataka government’s order on February 5, 2022 mandating a uniform is arbitrary and violates rights.
Advocate filed a police complaint against TNTJ functionary for his open threat to judges in hijab row 
THE PRINT| Supreme Court: Delhi based Supreme Court advocate B Ramaswamy filed a police complaint against Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) audit committee member Kovai Rahmathullah for threatening to kill SC judges. In his complaint, the advocate said that he was shocked to hear and watch the clippings, which are being widely circulated on social media. He said an unknown youth (Rahamathullah) is challenging the hon. High court and hon. Supreme court judges for the consequences of the hijab judgments and hijab related cases in a public meeting.
