The hearing on the transfer petition in the Narada case outside West Bengal went through a volley of arguments between senior counsels on Monday with the acting Chief Justice warning the advocate general after a point that he should not dictate how the court should hear the matter.
State advocate general Kishore Dutta and senior counsel Kalyan Bandyopadhyay kept pleading that the matter should be referred to a single bench as per rules. CBI counsel and solicitor general Tushar Mehta shot back, saying: “This shows that the state does not want this court to go into merits.” Bandyopadhyay said: “The country wants to know if rules of court can be dispensed with.”
Justice Harish Tandon, a member of the five-judge bench, said all issues could be argued. The hearing will resume on Tuesday.
