About the University and the Organisers

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab was established as a National Law University by a legislative act of the State of Punjab in 2006 in order to fulfil the need for a centre of excellence in legal education.

The Centre for Advanced Studies in Energy Laws (CASEL), RGNUL, was established in 2016 with the objective to cater to the need for research in Energy Law, an area of law that is becoming increasingly important and pivotal in the conversations about sustainability and the future. The Centre, since its inception, has evolved constructively with a special focus on organizing various workshops and sensitization Programmes. Apart from a focus on renewable energy resources, CASEL also aims to undertake research on and critically analyse energy-related legislation in India, research reports and suggest amendments to the same.

About the Workshop

The growth of the Energy Sector around the world is unprecedented, more specifically in India. The country with its existing resources and clear goals in place is making great strides towards its aspiration of transforming the energy sector. With the growth of renewables, the energy efficiency in the country is said to break records. The workshop aims at exploring the multi-dimensions of the Energy Sector, in its endeavour to expand the knowledge of the participants regarding energy laws and their related aspects.

One of the primary objectives of the workshop is to increase awareness regarding the energy sector thereby broadening and deepening the common understanding in the area of energy law. The workshops aim at exploring the dynamics of the energy sector and the related laws with a special focus on the nuances of the key themes, identifying the lacunae in the understanding of the energy sector and analyze the adequacy of the present laws and providing the participants with an opportunity to interact with industry experts and gain from their experience in the field of Energy.

The session shall witness sessions from eminent lawyers and experts specializing in the field of Energy.

  • Session by Industry Experts: April 10, 3:30 pm-5:30 pm (IST) and April 11, 11 am-1 pm (IST)
