Claudia Salomon has begun her term as President of the ICC International Court of Arbitration following formal election in June.

Claudia Salomon, who takes the reins from former ICC Court President Alexis Mourre, was formally elected on 11 June 2021 by ICC’s supreme governing body, the World Council.

Claudia Salomon is supported in her role by the ICC Court, comprising 195 members from 121 countries and including 17 Vice-Presidents which begins its 2021-2024 mandate under Ms Salomon’s leadership today. The new ICC Court includes 68 new members and 12 new Vice-Presidents also elected during the World Council meeting of 11 June.

Claudia Salomon’s election marks a milestone in the ICC Court’s almost 100-year history as the first woman to become President of the world’s preferred arbitral institution.

ABOUT CLAUDIA

Claudia Salomon is an independent arbitrator, specializing in international, investor-state and complex commercial disputes. She is widely recognized as one of the leading arbitration practitioners of her generation. She is known for her sound judgment, effective case management and ability to quickly reach the crux of an issue.

Claudia was formerly Partner and Global Co-Chair of Latham & Watkins’ International Arbitration Practice, where she was engaged in some of the most complex, high value and significant disputes. She has acted as arbitrator and counsel in arbitrations around the globe, under all of the major arbitral rules, governed by common law and civil law.

Claudia is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She is a sought after speaker and writer on international arbitration and is the co-editor of Choice of Venue in International Arbitration, published by Oxford University Press.

Claudia is a member of the New York Bar and a solicitor in England and Wales. She graduated from Harvard Law School, cum laude, and Brandeis University, summa cum laude with honors. She also studied at Somerville College, Oxford University.

Claudia has served as chair, sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator and emergency arbitrator. She is listed on arbitrator panels of institutions around the world, including the AAA / ICDR Roster (Commercial, International), BVI International Arbitration Center, Inaugural Roster of Arbitrators, CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, FedArb, Distinguished Neutral, HKIAC List of Arbitrators, KCAB International Panel of International Arbitrators, SCCA, Arbitrator Roster, and SIAC Panel of Arbitrators. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
