Justice Endlaw retired from Delhi High Court thanking role of Unsung Legal Heros for Success

Born on 13th August 1959 in Delhi. Studied at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, New Delhi and passed in the year 1976 and joined Hans Raj College, Delhi University. Thereafter, did LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in July 1982. He served as more than 13 years as judge of the Delhi High Court. His father was Senior advocate. He spend less time on criminal roaster of the Delhi High Court.

Initially joined a solicitor’s firm for 3 years and thereafter practised law in the Delhi High Court and the subordinate courts mainly on the original side in the fields of real estate, family, civil and arbitration laws.

Appointed as Additional Judge of Delhi High Court on 11.04.2008 and became Permanent Judge on 06.07.2011.

The career of the retired judge involved his contribution in various committees. He also served as the Chairman of the Rules Committee, looking into Delhi High Court 2018; Member of Governing council of National Law University, Delhi.

He was admired in his farewell speech for remarkable attribute of never loosing temper and huge power of concentration during the day proceeding.Known for even lightening up the moods of cousel during the proceedings. His scrutiny power for the suit on original side was under appreciation was cited by eg that summons were not issued for one year due to lacunas.

The judge was assertive on mastery of procedural technicalities. His pragmatic approaches was truly appreciable. The counsels shared their experience to prepare three steps ahead to appear before Justice Endlaw court while he still would bowl over by putting the fourth dimension to the issue in matter. It was said that there is a “Golden Standard” and “Endlaw Standard”.

Two unsung heroes was celebrated by the judges in his farewell speech. He mentioned while climbing the bench he was advised to speak only through judgments. During the pandemic, he realised that role played by registry was like a backbone of the court in speaking through the judgment. Law researcher, their role was also emphasised of its importance. The tedious task of proof reading was done by law researcher along with legal researcher. He shared success of his tenure with his team working behind the scene.
