CCI disposes of complaint against Amazon Seller Services, other related entities

MINT| CCI: India’s antitrust company Competition Commission of India (CCI) has disposed of a complaint that alleged unfair enterprise practices by Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd and sure other related entities. A complaint was filed by All India Online Vendors Association, which has greater than 2,000 sellers throughout the nation, against Amazon Seller Services, Amazon Wholesale India, Amazon Retail India, Cloudtail India and Prione Business Services.

CCI orders probe against Star India for alleged abuse of dominant position

MINT|CCI: Asianet Digital Network has filed a complaint with CCI against Star India, Disney Broadcasting (India) Ltd and Asianet Star Communications Pvt Ltd for their alleged abuse of dominant position. According to the complaint, Star India was providing a bouquet of channels to the competitor of the informant at lesser prices resulting into denial of market access and also amounting to unfair/discriminatory pricing.

HC refuses to issue notice for now on plea to direct govt to publish health warning on liquor bottles

UDAYAVANI|Delhi High Court: The Delhi High Court Friday refused to issued notice, as of now, on a  plea seeking direction to the government to publish ‘health warning’ on liquor bottles and packages, similar to the warning sign used on cigarette packets, and observed that the petitioner has been filing so many pleas on a daily basis.

Abhorrent nature of the crime alone cannot be the decisive factor for awarding a death sentence: Supreme Court in Pappu judgment

INDIAN LAW WATCH| Supreme Court: sRecently, the three judges’ bench of the supreme court of India observed in Pappu v. state of Uttar Pradesh [CRIMINAL APPEAL NOS. 1097-1098 OF 2018] that the abhorrent nature of the crime alone cannot be the decisive factor for awarding a death sentence. Due consideration should also be given to the equally relevant aspect of mitigating factors before concluding that option of any other punishment than the capital one was foreclosed.
