Accused ‘has clean past antecedents’: Delhi HC while granting bail to rape accused

THE INDIAN EXPRESS| Supreme Court: Granting bail to an accused in a rape case, the Delhi High Court said it cannot be ignored that he “has clean past antecedents” and that the nature of the relationship between the parties “was initially consensual and (later) went sore”. Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta in the order also noted that the investigation in the case has already been concluded and it is listed for framing of charges in July. It cannot be ignored that he is in custody for over a period of nine months, said the bench.

At ICJ, Indian judge votes against Russian invasion of Ukraine

THE INDIAN EXPRESS| International Court of Justice: The United States Wednesday welcomed an International Court of Justice order that asked Russia to immediately suspend its military operations in Ukraine. India’s judge voted against Russia while China’s judge opposed the order. Describing it as a significant ruling, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said that the ICJ “clearly and unequivocally” ordered Russia to immediately suspend its military operations.

Sebi amends rules governing alternative investment funds

THE HINDU BUSINESS LINE| SEBI: The regulations concerning Category III AIFs became effective from Wednesday Capital markets regulator Sebi has amended the rules pertaining to investment aspects of certain category of alternative investment funds (AIFs). Under the rules, Category III AIFs can invest not more than 10 per cent of the investable funds in an investee company, directly or through investment in units of other AIFs, Sebi said in a notification on Wednesday.
