Odisha born Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra assumed charge as the acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court on December 24, 2021 after the retirement of Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan from the post.
Born on 29.12.1961in Bolangir. The Hon’ble judge completed his B.Com.(Hons.) from Rajendra College, Bolangir in 1982 and thereafter went for his M.Com.from Delhi University in the year 1984. The journey for law commenced with joining for LL.B. from Law Faculty, Delhi University in the year 1987. Thereafter, from March, 1988 he joined profession and started practice in Bolangir District Courts under the guidance of his father, Shri Markanda Mishra. He conducted several sessions cases, civil suits, civil appeals independently. Acted as Honorary Law Lecturer of Bolangir Law College.
His journey as judge commenced when he secured the 1st position in the Recruitment Examination for District Judges from Bar and on 16.2.1999 and joined as Additional District & Sessions Judge, Jeypore.
Also worked as District & Sessions Judge, Sundergarh, Dhenkanal, Special Judge (CBI), Bhubaneswar and joined as Registrar General of Orissa High Court. He was elevated as Judge of the Orissa High Court on 07.10.2009.
His Lordship was transferred to High Court of Uttarakhand and assumed charge of the office of Judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand on 11.10.2021 and thereafter his present journey of being appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Uttarakhand w.e.f. 24.12.2021.
The Government of India Ministry of Law and Justice Department of Justice has issued a notification. “In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Shri Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, senior-most Judge of the Uttarkhand High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan, Chief Justice, Uttarakhand High Court.
