Bringing more clarity to students, Delhi High Court has ordered St. Stephens to withdraw its prospectus, stating that the admission to the premier DU college would be done only on the basis of the CUET score. 100% weightage would be given to CUET Result and no interview round provision was permitted.

Delhi High Court today has quashed the plans of St. Stephens College, stating that the admission to the college would be as the Common University Entrance Test, CUET 2022 score only. The court has issued order to the college and asked it to withdraw its prospectus from the website. The admissions, it states, would have to give 100% weightage to CUET score for upcoming undergraduate admissions.
St. Stephens, on grounds of its minority status, has demanded separate admission criteria following the announcement of CUET. The college had maintained that it was eligible to accord its own admission criteria. Accordingly, St. Stephens has also released its prospectus, stating that the admission to the college would be done on the basis of CUET score + Interview of the student where 15% criteria would be given to the interview round.
The court order reads,

“The communication dated May 9, 2022 issued by Delhi University is set aside to the extend that St Stephen’s College must follow the directive that 100 per cent weightage must be given to CUET 2022 score for admission to students belonging to non-minority category applying to under-graduate course.”

  • Delhi University, DU on the other hand maintained that St. Stephens would have to follow the university’s criteria. With CUET 2022, the admission, varsity stated, would have to be only on the basis of the CUET score and the same was communicated to the college.
  • The college in turn approached Delhi High Court and sought a stay in the order. Delhi High Court today ordered in favour of Delhi University.
  • Delhi High Court bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad has directed the college to do away with the interview.
  • The court order reads, “The communication dated May 9, 2022 issued by Delhi university is set aside to the extend that St Stephen’s College must follow the directive that 100 per cent weightage must be given to CUET 2022 score for admission to students belonging to non-minority category applying to under-graduate course.”
The court, however, has also directed Delhi University to not insist on a single merit list for admission to the minority community. Upholding St. Stephens claim of a minority institution, the High Court has orderd, “Delhi University cannot insist upon a single merit list for admission of candidates belonging to the Christian community regardless of any denomination, subset or sub-categories within the Christian community.”
