The Supreme Court Collegium on 19th April, 2022, has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Justice Satyen Vaidya, Additional Judge of Himachal Pradesh High Court as Permanent Judge of that High Court.
The Learned judge was born on 22.12.1963 at Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. Son of H L Vaidya, a former Director, Public Relations in Himachal Pradesh government, Vaidya hails from Mandi but had his schooling and college education in Shimla. He did his law degree from Himachal Pradesh University. Vaidya ‘s father had also served as press secretary to Himachal Pradesh’s first Chief Minister Dr Y S Parmar. Earlier, his uncle had also served as judge at Himachal Pradesh High Court in the 1990s.
He did his schooling from Lady Irwin School Shimla and Government Boys Senior Secondary School Lalpani Shimla. Graduated from Government Degree College for boys Shimla and obtained degree of Law from Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
He was enrolled as an Advocate with Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh in 1986. Practised in District Courts and High Court in all Branches of Law. Remained Legal Advisor-cum-Standing Counsel for Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, Himachal Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation, Municipal Corporation Shimla and various other Boards, Corporations and Societies.
He conducted arbitrations for Government of Himachal Pradesh as well as Private Parties. Remained trained Mediator and acted as such in large number of cases. Remained actively associated with various Legal Aid Programmes.
He delivered various guests lectures at Himachal Pradesh Judicial Academy and Himachal Institute of Public Administration. Appointed as amicus curiae by the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in many cases.
Designated as Senior Advocate in 2015. Elevated as an Additional Judge of Hon’ble High Court of Himachal Pradesh and assumed the office on 26.06.2021.
